MIFFLINTOWN — Barb Lyter of the Juniata County Business and Professional Women’s Club spoke with the Juniata County Commissioner on Tuesday to thank them for the committee’s announcement that October 17 will be “Women in Business Week”.

Lyter applauds the commissioners for their continued support of the club since its inception and recognizes women business owners and professionals in Juniata County, as the commissioners have been ardent supporters of the organization.

The Business and Professional Women’s Club hosts educational workshops for women of all ages, mentoring and leadership training programs for women, and honors women in government.

Tiffany Reader of Tuscarora Intermediate Unit also spoke with commissioners on Tuesday to announce the expansion to Juniata through the creation of new educational offerings in partnership with Lewistown’s Tuscarora Intermediate Unit and PA Career Links and the Juniata County Library Residents of the county, including preparatory classes and adult education opportunities, such as GED programs. There is also an accelerated 10-week program and a family literacy program for families with children.

Classes are scheduled to start in October. 11 at the Juniata County Library Community Room. The program provides accommodation for non-English speakers and offers courses in English as a Second Language. Anyone interested can contact CareerLink in Lewistown at (717) 248-4942.

And, commissioners heard from SEDA-COG’s Nadine Simpson, who announced that over $79,000 had been successfully allocated for the Oakland Mill Sewer Project due to additional funding available and the need for more funding for the Oakland Mill Sewer Project.

In other business on Tuesday, the board:

• Approve the implementation of the 2022 9-1-1 Statewide Connect Grant, as recommended by Emergency Management Agency Administrator Alan Weaver. The grant amount is $154,684.

• Approve the following Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) budget revision recommended by Nadine Simpson, SEDA Program Associate, Council of Government, for the Oakland Mills sewer branch.

• Accepted a Juniata County Reentry Strategic Planning sub-grant notice for $14,999 with a project duration of October. January 1, 2022 – September 2023, March 30, 2023, submitted by Lisa Stalnaker, awarded to writer.

• Approval of payment check numbers. 65854 to 65907 in the amount of $102,733.40.

In addition, the Compensation Committee approved the September minutes. 27 meetings.
