Tech consultant arrested for stabbing Cash App founder | US News

A person who identified himself as a technology consultant has been arrested in connection with the stabbing death of Cash App founder Bob Lee in San Francisco.

Nima Momeni, 38, was arrested on suspicion of murder, San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott said at a news conference.

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said Momeni will be charged with Lee’s murder and is expected to be arraigned Friday.

Mr Scott declined to elaborate on how they linked the death to Mommeny, or how the men knew each other.

The chief also declined to reveal a possible motive for the killing.

San Francisco Commission Chairman Aaron Peskin announced the arrest of a suspect in the Emeryville suburb.

Ms Jenkins also criticized Elon Musk’s tweets about Mr Li’s death.

Musk responded to the killing with a tweet, replying to another user: “Violent crime in San Francisco is horrendous, and even when attackers are apprehended, they are usually released immediately.”

He added that the city should take stronger action to incarcerate repeat violent offenders and flagged Jenkins’ Twitter account.

Ms Jenkins called the Twitter owner reckless for suggesting “repeated violent offenders” were involved.

“The reckless and irresponsible statements in Musk’s tweets – assuming the wrong circumstances surrounding Mr Lee’s death – have misled the world’s perception of San Francisco,” Ms Jenkins said.

The statements “also have a negative impact on justice for victims of crime because it spreads misinformation as police try to solve a very difficult case,” she said.

Police found Mr. Li with stab wounds near San Francisco’s Lincoln Hill at 2:30 a.m. on April 4. Died in hospital.

Mr. Lee is best known for creating Cash App, a widely used mobile payment service, while also serving as CTO of payments company Square (now known as Block). He was chief product officer at the time of his death at the cryptocurrency company MobileCoin.

On his LinkedIn profile, Momeni describes himself as an IT consultant/entrepreneur and “owner” of a company called Expand IT.
