Shark bites off US woman’s leg in Turks and Caicos | World News

A 22-year-old woman has had her leg bitten off by a shark while snorkelling in the Caribbean.

The unnamed woman, originally from the U.S. state of Connecticut, was taken to hospital in a serious condition in the Turks and Caicos Islands, police said.

She and her friend were snorkeling outside the Blue Haven resort near Leeward Pier on Providenciales, one of the islands, when the attack happened just after 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Stephanie Mack, a spokeswoman for the resort, said in a statement: “It is our understanding that she was a guest of another resort and a customer of a cruise line, neither of which we are affiliated with or located in the vicinity. .”

An employee at a resort near Leeward Jetty called police about the shark attack and requested an ambulance, police said.
