If you’re a Discover credit card holder and an Amazon shopper, you might be in luck. That’s because the online retailer is currently running a promotion that can help you save money on many of the products Amazon sells when you use the cash back on select Discover cards.

Depending on the deal you target, you can get up to 40% off, saving up to $20 on Amazon. Additional cardholders can save up to 30%, save up to $15, get $10 off a $50 purchase, or other savings.

If you’re eligible for any of these deals, you’ll need to pay for at least a portion of your Amazon purchases with Discover cash back at checkout to trigger the discount. You can take advantage of this offer any time before the promotion expires on April 4. 7th of 2023.

However, there are a number of steps you need to take first to really lock in the savings from any of these deals, so we’ve put together a step-by-step guide to make sure you’re getting your money’s worth.

For starters, in order to potentially be targeted for this promotion, you must have a Discover credit card. These include Discover it® Cash Back, Discover it® Miles and Discover it® Chrome.

If you own one of these cards but have not yet linked your Discover card to your Amazon account, you will need to link your two accounts. Log into Amazon and add your Discover card as a payment method, then look under the “Your Account” tab for the option to sign up for Shop with Points (or click here to go to Shop with Points). On the next screen, click the Register button for the Discover card you just added.

After linking your accounts, you need to click here to check if you are eligible for the offer. Since these are targeted promotions, you may see a message saying you are not eligible, even if you have a Discover card linked to your Amazon account. But if you just signed up for “Shop with Points,” you may have to wait 24 hours for Amazon’s record to refresh to see the deal.

If you’re eligible, make sure to activate your offer by clicking the “Activate Promotion” button. You can then shop on Amazon as usual, but during the checkout process, you’ll need to choose your linked Discover card as your payment method.

You’ll then need to claim at least 1 Discover Cash Back point to pay for your purchase to trigger the discount. Amazon may automatically default to applying points for the full purchase amount, but you can manually change this and specify the cash back amount you want to spend on purchases – Just 1 cent if you want. You can then pay the rest with your Discover card.

Luckily, when you redeem Discover cash back at Amazon, you’ll get the same value you get when you opt for statement credit redemption. Basically, $1 in cash back equals $1 on Amazon, which means you get the same 1 cent per point. That’s far better value than you’ll get when using points from Amex or Chase, which often run similar Amazon promotions for their own card members.

After applying at least 1 credit to the payment, you will see the discount added to your order, but keep in mind that you will only see the discount on items sold directly by Amazon, most third-party sellers will not see it .

With the 30% or 40% off offer, you’ll save on all your purchases until you reach the $15 or $20 maximum, depending on your offer. However, for the $10 off $50 deal, you need to have purchased at least $50 of eligible items in your Amazon shopping cart for the discount to appear.

Let’s look at some examples of how you can use these Amazon Discover deals to get great discounts.

You can even combine this discount with Amazon’s Deals of the Day or any of Amazon’s category-specific money-saving deals, like saving $20 when you spend $60 on select beauty products.

While these Discover discounts don’t apply to Amazon gift cards, they do apply to many other retailer gift cards that Amazon sells. Amazon does have hundreds of options, including retailers that might be useful right now like Netflix, DoorDash, Safeway, and more.
