Royal Mail: Merchants send parcels to US to break ban

Mr Tessio, 40, considered other suppliers but said it would cost £58 to post a small box.

“We messaged our customers to let them know they won’t be getting packages in the mail anytime soon, but let them know we’re going to New York City and will be happy to ship.”

He said customers were “overwhelmed” and offered to pay for shipping when they arrived in the US.

“We refused them to pay and we did it ourselves,” he explained, who receives about 30 international orders a week.

“Royal Mail did not update customers on the situation. At least we knew what was going on while the strike was going on.

“We don’t have a lot of information about this cyber attack, we got a couple of messages trying to buy online but no one really knows what happened.”
