Polar bears kill women and boys in remote Alaska village | World News

A polar bear has attacked and killed a woman and a boy in a remote village in western Alaska.

State police said they received reports of an attack at 2.30pm local time (11.30pm UK time) on Tuesday in Wales, on the western tip of the Seward Peninsula, local news station KTUU reported.

“Initial reports indicate a polar bear entered the community and chased several residents,” the deputies wrote.

“The bear fatally attacked an adult female and a juvenile male.”

The bear was shot and killed by a local resident when it attacked the couple, officers said.

The names of the two victims were not released, and soldiers said they were trying to notify families.

The dispatch said soldiers and the state Department of Fish and Game were planning to travel to Wales as soon as the weather permitted.
