NYSP investigates Thursday highway crash that caused traffic delays

Buffalo, N.Y. — An accident involving a tractor-trailer on a New York State Thruway in Lancaster caused significant traffic delays Thursday afternoon.

The accident happened near Exit 49 of I-90 in Lancaster.

New York State Police investigators said the driver of a tractor-trailer traveling east on I-90 lost control of the tanker, left the road and rolled over multiple times.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Laura M. Winspear, 25, of Oakfield, had to be rescued from the vehicle. She was taken to ECMC by Mercy Flight with no life threatening.

Police said the tanker was hauling liquid fertilizer that spilled onto the highway. Environmental protection personnel rushed to the scene to assist in the cleanup.

Investigators still don’t know what caused the driver to lose control. No tickets were issued.
