New police bodycam video shows hammering moment for Paul Pelosi | US News

Body camera video released by police shows the moment a man attacked Nancy Pelosi’s husband with a hammer at their San Francisco home.

Police repeatedly knocked on the front door — and when it opened, Mr Pelosi was holding the head of a hammer while the intruder clung to the handle, trying to pry the 82-year-old out of his hands.

Mr. Pelosi refused to let go until the suspect suddenly took control and charged him with a weapon.

It was at this point that Sky News decided to stop recording.

Officers rushed in, lunged at the attacker, and pinned him face down on the ground, with Mr Pelosi lying motionless next to him.

The October 28 attack knocked out Mr Pelosi, who Had surgery to repair a fractured skull and suffered serious arm and hand injuries.

Former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives nancy pelosione of America’s most senior politicians, was David Papp’s intended target, but was in Washington at the time.

She said Friday that she does not plan to watch the video.

“I didn’t hear the 911 call. I didn’t hear the confession. I didn’t see the break-in. I definitely don’t want to see my husband fatally attacked,” she said.

Mrs Pelosi said her husband was “making progress” but “more time is needed”.

The video is part of newly released evidence after journalists questioned the decision to keep it out of the public eye.

It also includes some of Mr. Pelosi’s 911 calls, images from police surveillance cameras and video of De Pape being questioned by police.

Surveillance video showed the suspect breaking the door glass with a hammer and entering the house.

DePape, 42, has denied all charges against him. These include attempted kidnapping, attempted murder, elder abuse and burglary.

Prominent Politicians Might Be Worried After Watching This Video

In this case, both the prosecution and the defense opposed the release of the video footage of the attack, saying it would affect the suspect David Depape’s right to a fair trial and contribute to the “distortion of facts” in the case.

But continued outreach by news organizations convinced the judge there was no compelling reason to keep the tapes, 911 calls and parts of the police interview with DePape secret.

Perhaps it’s no surprise that Nancy Pelosi didn’t want to see such a brutal attack on her husband of 59 years caught on police body cameras. But surveillance footage of DePape allegedly wandering around the couple’s San Francisco home before breaking in was also eye-opening.

Capitol police, who were tasked with protecting Pelosi’s home, were apparently patrolling the property a few meters away and seemed unaware that De Papp was inside until Paul Pelosi called 911. It prompted a review of high-profile politicians’ security procedures.

Police said he told them “there is evil in Washington” and that he planned to hold Mrs Pelosi hostage for lying to the public.

He also believes in the discredited theory that the US election was stolen from Donald Trump.

Court documents also show he told officers in an interview with DePape that he was on a “suicide mission.” List Tom Hanks as another target.

Immigration officials identified him as a Canadian citizen who entered the U.S. illegally after entering the country as a visitor.
