Kobe Bryant’s family has reached an almost $29m (£24m) settlement after police shared images of the basketball star’s helicopter crash.

A sheriff’s deputy shared photos of Bryant’s body with a bartender while he was drinking, and firefighters circulated the photos to each other at a banquet, the court heard.

In March 2021, Ms. Bryant shared the names of four sheriff’s deputies who she said had distributed “unpaid photos of dead children, parents and coaches.”

She claims the photos were taken and shared “for no reason other than pathological gossip”.

California has since passed a state law prohibiting first responders from taking unauthorized photographs of people who have died in accidents or crime scenes.
