Kirstie Alley, star of US sitcom ‘Cheers’ fame, has died at the age of 71.

In a statement, her children said: “We regret to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a short battle with cancer which was only recently discovered. .

“She is surrounded by her closest family and fights with might, giving us assurance that she has never-ending enjoyment of life, no matter what adventures lie ahead.”

Ellie’s most beloved role is her role as Rebecca Howe on the American feature-length comedy “Cheers,” in which she played the on-and-off love interest of Ted Danson’s Boston bar owner Sam.

She also starred alongside John Travolta in the successful 1989 romantic comedy Look Who’s Talking.

The actor paid tribute to her on social media. “Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had. I love you Kirstie,” he wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo of the late star. “I know we’ll meet again.”

From 1997 to 2000, she aired her own sitcom, Veronica’s Closet, on NBC.

Later, in 2018, she competed in Celebrity Big Brother UK and was runner-up.
