Instagram ‘investigation’ abruptly suspends people’s accounts | Tech News

Instagram said it was investigating why thousands of users had their accounts suddenly suspended.

Users around the world have posted on other social media platforms asking why they were locked out of their profiles, and received a message saying: “We suspended your account on October 31, 2022.”

“We know some of you are having trouble accessing your Instagram account,” Instagram Say.

“We are investigating this matter and apologise for the inconvenience.”

According to the Down Detector website, tens of thousands of people have logged problems.

The Verge reports that millions appear to have been affected, with some of the platform’s largest accounts seeing a drop in the number of followers.

Those affected were told they had 30 days to disagree with their suspension.

Why was the account suspended?

Users were told three reasons why their accounts were suspended.

• The account does not comply with Instagram’s Community Guidelines
• Unable to confirm account
• Currently invisible and unavailable

People first started reporting problems at lunchtime on Monday.

“Has anyone else’s Instagram been suspended for no reason?” tweeted one affected user.

“Now Instagram doesn’t even bother to let you appeal, it just gives you a mistake?”

Another said: “Anyone else having this problem on Instagram? Or is my account really suspended?”

Instagram’s troubles come less than a week after another Meta platform, WhatsApp, suffered a major power outage.

Last Tuesday morning, thousands of people reported being unable to send and receive messages.
