How drones are the future of farming in India

India’s agricultural sector is often slow to keep pace with new technologies and relies mostly on traditional methods.

But startups focused on drone technology are trying to change that — one farm at a time.

The companies are encouraging farmers to use drones to monitor the health of their crops and to spray them with fertilizers and pesticides. The trend comes as the federal government lays out ambitious plans to make India a drone hub by 2030.

The BBC’s Arunoday Mukharji traveled to the Kancheepuram district in the southern state of Tamil Nadu to see how farmers are adapting to using the device in the field.
