Google has launched its own artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot in response to the wildly successful ChatGPT.
The new conversational AI service will be called Bard and will be rolled out to “trusted users” ahead of a public launch in the coming weeks, Google’s Parent company Alphabet Inc announced on Monday.
It comes on the heels of ChatGPT — an AI chatbot trained on vast amounts of text data that it uses to help generate answers and engage in realistic conversations.

The chatbot has been so successful, it was revealed earlier this month that the service had been used by more than 100 million users worldwide in less than two months.

Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai announced the news in a blog post on Monday, where he also announced more artificial intelligence for its search engine and developers.
“It’s an incredibly exciting time to be working on these technologies as we turn deep research and breakthroughs into products that actually help people,” he wrote.
“That’s the journey we’ve had with large language models.
“The Bard can be an outlet for creativity or a launching pad for curiosity, helping you explain new discoveries from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope to your 9-year-old, or learn more about the best striker in football right now. information, and then get training to develop your skills.”

Google’s service Bard will be powered by LaMDA, the company’s AI that generates such human-like prose A company engineer called it sentient last year — the tech giant and scientists have generally refuted the claim.
Google has been cautious about chatbots so far, with LaMDA limited to limited testing.
Explaining how the Bard will be released, Pichai wrote: “We will initially release it with a lightweight model version of LaMDA.
“This much smaller model requires less computing power, allowing us to scale to more users and thus more feedback.

“We will combine external feedback with our own internal testing to ensure that Bard’s responses meet high standards in terms of quality, security and grounding in real-world information.

Microsoft has since announced plans to implement ChatGPT into its Teams software, where it will perform actions like wrap-up meetings, but those features will be limited to premium pricing plans.
