An attorney for the Petito family shared a copy of the letter, written by Roberta Laundrie, with NBC News.

She once said in the letter: “I just want you to remember that I will always love you and I know you will always love me.
“You are my boy.
“Nothing will stop me from loving you, and no matter what we do, where we go or what we say, it will or will never divide us – we will always be in love.
“If you were in prison, I would bake a cake and put a folder in it.
“If you need to dispose of a body, I’ll show up with a shovel and a garbage bag.
“If you fly to the moon, I’ll watch the sky and wait for you to return to Earth.
“If you say you hate my guts, I’ll get new ones.”
“Nothing Can Separate Us… Not Even Sin”
Roberta Laundrie quotes a biblical verse from the book of Romans in her letter and ends with this: “(Nothing shall separate us: hate, hunger, homelessness, threats , not even sin can separate us. Between us.) ~ not time. not miles and miles and miles.
In an affidavit, Mrs Laundrie said she wrote the letter to her son at a time when their relationship was “strained” and handed it to him before he and Gabby went on a trip.
“When he planned to leave the house, I tried to connect with Brian and repair our relationship – I had hoped this letter would remind him how much I love him,” she wrote.
“While I used words that seemed to relate to Brian’s actions and his taking of Gabi’s life, I would never understand that the events between Brian and Gabi a few months later would reflect the words in my letter .”
Letter “has nothing to do with Gabby”
In a statement issued through the family’s lawyer, Mrs Laundrie added: “The letter to Brian was written before Gabby and Brian left my home to travel.
“I really love my son and just want to convey to him how much he means to me and how much I love him. I’m sure people will always use phrases to express how much they love their loved ones.
“Although I chose words that I thought would have an impact on Brian given our relationship, this letter has nothing to do with Gabby.”
