FTC Chair Lina M. Khan Names New Chief Technology Officer and Director of Public Affairs

Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina M. Khan announced the appointment of two new senior agency leaders: Chief Technology Officer Stephanie Nguyen and Director of Public Affairs Douglas Farrar.

“I am delighted to welcome Stephanie and Doug to the FTC’s senior leadership team,” said Chairman Khan. “Their knowledge and experience will strengthen the FTC in two key areas, ensuring we keep pace with the latest developments in technology and ensuring we communicate clearly with the public about the agency’s critical work.”

Nguyen named CTO after acting role Since October 2021.she Over a decade of leadership building and designing technology products and services in government, academia, civil society and the private sector, specializing in human-computer interaction design and user experience research. Prior to his tenure at the FTC, Nguyen worked at the White House’s US Center for Digital Services and as a research scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Nguyen holds an MPP from Harvard Kennedy School, where she studied as a Gleitsman Scholar, and a BA in Digital Media Theory and Design from the University of Virginia.

Farrar came to the FTC from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, where he served as vice president of communications and strategy. Previously, Farrar served as assistant director of communications at the Aspen Institute and as a communications and legislative assistant in the U.S. House of Representatives, including a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee. Farrar holds an MA in Social and Public Policy from Georgetown University’s School of Continuing Studies and a BA in International Politics from Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service.
