The Buffalo Bills are reportedly powering a secondary team that desperately needs it, as the club is working on a deal with veteran cornerback Xavier Rhodes. NFL NetworkThe three-time Pro bowler visited the team on Tuesday and is now poised to deepen a unit that was slashed by injuries earlier this year.
Buffalo recently lost star safety Mika Hyde this season to a neck injury and has also been dealing with corners Trey David Uswhite, Dane Jackson and Christian Benford. All-Pro safety Jordan Boyer was sidelined with a foot injury in last week’s loss to Miami, so the Super Bowl contender suffered a crushing defeat in the secondary.
While this will be Rhodes’ first game with the Bills, he does feel familiar with the team thanks to assistant head coach and defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier. Rhodes played under Frazier in 2013, his final season as head coach of the Vikings.
Rhodes has had a productive career since entering the league as a first-round pick from Florida State. During his tenure at Minnesota, he was a three-time Pro Bowl selection and an all-career nomination in 2017. Most recently, Rhodes was in Indianapolis with the Colts. In his final two seasons at Indy, he started 29 games and completed 19 turnovers and three interceptions.
The 32-year-old was released by the Colts in March.
