Detroit small business offering buses has been targeted by thieves

Detroit – A small business that provides field trip bus service for tours, weddings and even schoolchildren is trying to boost its West Side location on the city’s west side, but it’s also been a constant target of burglaries.

First, the expensive catalytic converter was cut off their bus, and now a thief has hit the place twice in one day, but this time with a twist.

Video from security cameras shows a badly limping intruder breaking in Detroit Bus Company Site on the west side of the city, where two expensive bus batteries were stolen.

The agency’s owners called the police.

“So, the police came and swept all the buses,” Aaron Cummings said. “They drew their guns and said, ‘DPD, if you are here, come out. ‘”

The visibly limp returned a few hours later to steal more gear.

“He’s just slowly peddling,” Andy Didorosi said.

Dido Rossi and Cummings jumped into the car and followed the thief at four miles an hour, waiting for the police to arrive.

“He just stole a battery,” the men said. “We watched him do it. It’s been going on for an hour now and it’s the funniest thing ever.”

The Detroit Police Department stopped and took the man into custody.

“Once he was arrested, it didn’t feel good,” Cummings said.

Cummings said he felt uncomfortable because the thief was disabled.

“We digested all the events of the day later in the day and we were like, ‘Can we help him,'” Cummings said. “No one wants to do that.”

If they figure out a way to help people with disabilities, this is the third break-in in which the device was stolen from the small business that tried to make it.

Shane O’Conner said: “You really want to be angry, but the world isn’t going to stop for you, you just grab the battery and put it back on the bus.”
