Boy, 11, ‘shot in the chest’ by cop he called for help in Mississippi | US News

An 11-year-old boy shot dead by police has been released home after nearly a week of treatment.

Adrian Murray spent five days in hospital with a collapsed lung, torn liver and broken ribs, attorney Carlos Moore said.

Adlin was released from the hospital on Wednesday and is continuing to recover at his home in Indianola, Mississippi, about 95 miles northwest of Jackson, Mississippi.

Mr Moore said the family was “demanding justice”.

“An 11-year-old black boy in Indianola nearly died – he did nothing wrong and everything was right.”

Mr Moore said Aderrien was asked by his mother Nakala to call the police at about 4am on Saturday after his ex-partner showed up at the home.

Mr Moore said Ms Murry felt threatened and the child “called the police to rescue his mother, he called his grandmother to rescue his mother, the police arrived there and escalated the situation”.

Two police officers arrived, one of whom kicked down the front door before Ms Murry opened it, telling them the man had left but her three children were inside.

Kid doesn’t understand why police shot him

Sergeant Greg Capes, who is black, yelled that anyone inside should put their hands up, Mr Moore said.

Mr Moore said Capers shot Adrian in the chest as he walked into the living room with his hands empty.

Indianola City Attorney Kimberly Merchant confirmed to Indianola’s Enterprise-Tocsin newspaper that Capers was the officer who shot the young boy, and Mr. Moore said Thursday that Capers has been suspended with pay while the incident is investigated.

Ms Murry said her son was “lucky” to be alive, but he did not understand why a police officer shot him.
