BATAVIA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Batavia man has been arrested on a gun possession charge following a shooting Friday night, police said.
Around 6pm on Friday, police said they received a complaint about what sounded like gunfire in the area of 200 Ellicott Street. Later, police tried to stop a man who fit the description, but he fled on foot. During the pursuit, Tarrence Williams, 22, of Batavia, threw the gun into bushes near the M&T Bank on Court Street, police said.
Williams was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon in the second degree and possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. He is also awaiting sentencing on charges of attempted unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.
