As night fell in Nashville, people came to pay their respects at the gate of Covenant Christian School.
“I just got off work and I’ve been thinking about this all day,” Chad Baker arrived with a bouquet of pink flowers. “I just wanted to do something.”
Young and old prayed outside this primary school that has witnessed so much suffering.
CCTV released overnight Glimpse the horror behind the school gates.
Audrey Hale, a biological woman who identifies as male, wanders the corridors. As former students, they knew and studied the layout of the building, plotting to attack the most innocent people in society.
As such, Covenant School in Nashville would be added to the list of school shootings sweeping America. A tragedy that continues in the cycle of gun violence.
And it was precisely because of that incredible cycle that the police here moved so fast. Fourteen minutes after the first emergency call, Audrey Hale was shot dead by police.
A police officer at the scene told me that the city’s authorities prepared extensively for a day like yesterday, with regular aggressive shooter training.
Audrey Hale arrives with three guns and plans to raid multiple locations. The tragedy could have been much worse.
But that will bring little comfort to families waking up today to the loss of a loved one.
